Celebrities swarm in to support Citi FM's Easter Orphan

On Monday, April 9, this year, a number of orphans and reforming drug addicts in a range of parts of Ghana will wake up to an skill akin to their wildest dreams.

As has been the case for the past six years, Citi FM will once again lead the specialty in actuating the Easter message of love, compassion and worry for the needs of one’s neighbor through their flagship generous program dubbed:

‘The Easter Orphan Project. This time round though, the fortunate recipients of Citi FM’s Easter openhandedness will be in for what promises to be by far the most memorable and strange Easter experience.

The 7th edition of the Easter Orphan Project, is certainly shaping up to be one with a distinction as Citi FM’s ever dependable organizational machine revves up and moves into fifth gear with barely a fortnight to go for the much looked-forward-to Easter activity.

Unlike any of the six preceding editions of the project, this year’s has seen a sheer swarm of celebrities from the stage and sports, not only endorsing the Easter Orphan Project but also getting actively involved.

As at the time of penning this portion, over ten celebrated artistes and a much-loved sports icon have pledged to add their bit to Citi FM’s philanthropic program.

As evidenced by their own verbal entreaties which have been playing intermittently on 97.3Citi FM, admired music artistes such as Edem, BukBak, Asem, Slim Buster, E-nyce and Fritz have not only added their voices to Citi FM’s daring effort to raise an amount of GHC 100,000 for the establishment of a skills and training centre at one of the orphanages, they have promised to also donate to the effort and to join Easter Orphan volunteers on Easter Monday (April 9) as they interact with inmates of the orphanages and the rehab centre.
It goes without saying, that their attendance will certainly add loads of color and spice to the event.

The musicians, however are not the only celebs to have bought into the Easter Orphan message, a number of actors, Television personalities and even a footballer of great standing have effervescently endorsed the Easter Orphan Project and pledged to join in the compassionate effort.

On-screen Diva, actor and now face of Range Rover Evoque, the beautiful Jocelyn Dumas is also on board and so is actress extraordinaire, Ama K. Abrebrese.

The suave, sexy crooner and popular TV host, John Germain, Black Stars ex-captain, Stephen ‘Tornado’ Appiah and Rap Doctor Okyeame Kwame are all gearing up to give beneficiaries of the Easter Orphan Project an memorable experience.

As at the time of writing this article, there is a hard indication that the latest star to join the mix is talented singer-rapper; Trigmatic. With the ever increasing invasion of artistes pledging their support for the Easter Orphan Project, it certainly seems this year’s edition will be nothing less than explosive.

The beneficiaries of this year’s project are the Baptist Schools Complex and Orphanage (BASCO) where Citi FM is mobilizing funds to set up a GHC100,000 Skills and Training Centre for the orphans. Also benefitting are the Mama Lardi Foster Home (Bolgatanga), Jehovah Rapha Orphanage (Suhum), Handivangelism Home (Haatso), and the Chosen Drug Rehab Centre (Abofu, Accra).

Well meaning individuals and business bodies are encouraged to donate cement, roofing sheets, paint, rice, gari, maize, sugar, drinks, biscuits, detergents, washing powder, exercise books and cash sums.

DeMarcus Cousins

DeMarcus Cousins was the center of a batch of controversy earlier this year with then-head coach Paul Westphal. Cousins won, Westphal lost and now it's looking like the Kings won, too.

DeMarcus Cousins is averaging 17 points and 11 rebounds a game. Those numbers should be going up still more next year.

Every year, there's a team in the Western Conference that breaks out. This year it's the Timberwolves; last year the Grizzlies; the year before that it was the Thunder. Next year, the best candidate is the Kings, who have gathered a lot of good, young aptitude over the last few years.

If they have a .500 record at midseason—and I expect they will—they'll be looking for an All-Star candidate, and Cousins would fit the bill properly. He could very well be averaging 20 and 12 next seasons, and those are All-Star numbers.

Dancing with stars: premieres to all time low ratings

Dancing with the Stars judges may have given Monday’s dancers the greatest performance scores ever for a opening, but fans gave the show its lowest Nielsen ratings ever for a first appearance episode.

The ratings fall is not really a revelation. The veteran reality show returned up against NBC’s fresher reality hit The Voice, and lacked buzz-worthy tabloid names this spring (Katherine Jenkins, William Levy, Melissa Gilbert, yawn… the covert to casting Dancing is having hot-button names like Bristol Palin, The condition, Nancy Grace and Chaz Bono, celebrities that a huge number of Americans have strong feelings about, positive or negative).

Dancing delivered 18.5 million viewers and a 3.5 rating in the adult demo, down 34 percent from last coil and off 13 percent from last fall. At least the two-hour Dancing helped boost Castle (16.3 million, 2.4) up 14 percent, but that wasn’t pretty enough to win 10 p.m.

The big winner last night was The Voice (11.8 million, 4.5 — and, yes, as always, we’re going off the adult demo here because that’s what advertisers and networks, whether we like it or not, base their choices on; clearly among viewers of a certain age, Dancing was more admired). The Voice has held up strong overall during its clash rounds so far and easily crushed Dancing, though last night’s episode slipped 13 percent. Smash (6.7 million, 2.3) was down 4 percent.

CBS tied ABC for second position, its comedy block rising slightly in the first hour, declining a tad in the second hour: HIMYM (8.2 million, 3.4), 2 Broke Girls (9.2 million, 3.4), Two and a Half Men (11.3 million, 3.8), and Mike & Molly (9.8 million, 3.2). Hawaii Five-0 (9.1 million, 2.5) was steady.

Fox’s House (5.8 million, 2.0) was down 17 percent, while Alcatraz (5.1 million, 1.5) slipped another six percent. I could see Fox maybe taking a possibility on Alcatraz for a Friday slot next fall, but even that might be a lengthy shot at this point.
